Well here we are sitting in Edithburgh our paradise is lost... at least for the day the gentle breases cascading across the water of yesterday has given way to cyclonic, tornado, force 10 caravan rock and rolling winds of today...
at least thats what they feel like. The wind started blowing from the south about 5:30 this morning. We were expecting some wind they had forecast up to 35km/h well by the time it hit 69km/hr our awning was flapping like crazy. There we were at 6:30 both of us trying to hang on to the awning hoping the wind would die down but of course it didn't. In the end the couple from the next caravan took pitty on us and came out and helped us put it down... the awning that is. It was weird as the wind was coming from the non-awning side but the air must have been moving across the roof of the van that fast it was sucking the awning canvas up and down with each gust.
So here we are sitting inside wondering what to do as we are buffered around by winds. I was eyeing of the wine bottle then Anne made some yummy scones so we setup the coffee machine and pigged out. It has also got a little cold so the heater came out and turned on for the first time this trip then our thoughts starting to think go northwards young couple. I had though about visiting the Clare Valley wine region but bugger that if it is going to be cold and windy. Anne started looking at houses in Darwin and is now about to play a game of solitare on her computer damm this wind.
One thing we have found about the Ayre and Yorke Peninsulas is when the wind blows it blows. From what the locals say the wind has been a little unusual not so much in its intensity, apparently it blows this hard normally, but how often the winds have been strong for this time of year. For us we have had 2 or 3 days of wind blowing then 2 or 3 days of gentle breases most of the time it blows when we have been travelling between, arriving or departing a destination then get the good weather at the destination. We must be out of sync also today has been the strongest we have experienced.
Still its all part of the travelling and we just taking it as it comes. Hopefully it will start to ease of this evening so we can get back outside where we belong. This reminds me of the song "Hello Mudda Hello Fadda here I am at Camp Grenada" as i'm sure when the weather improves we will start thinking we are in paradise again. |
