We have been in Walkamin for 3 weeks and have done nothing in that time and enjoying it.
We really haven't been sitting on our butts doing nothing but we are quite happy to sit at home and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. This has also been a good opportunity to do maintenance and fix those niggly items or make some modifications to the caravan.
Our mornings normally start with a walk along the back roads for about an hour of exersise. When we return breakfast is next which is either a smoothie or cereal. During the day there maybe some gardening that needs attending to and Anne has been catching up on those craft activities she been meaning to do yet never really finding the time to do it. There is a roadside style store located at the shop next door which stocks the best bananas and has become one of the staples in our diet.
Walkamin is quite central to a lot of tableland attractions and activities but we haven't felt the urgency to get out there. I guess we have seen a lot on our previous visit last year so we feel there there is no rush. The weather has been quite pleasant you don't get the humidity here like in Cairns yet it is still a comfortable 28 degrees during the day. Not much rain has fallen I think about 2 or 3 mm in the time we have been here. The road is getting busier with caravans going past so we are now moving into the busy part of the season. Rocky Creek a free campspot just down the road is also starting to fill upanother indication the busy tourist time is almost upon us.
Next week we are taking the van to the upholsterer in Mareeba who will make and fit the new padded cover to the van. Hopefully this will stop the stone damage that is ocurring to the front of the van. Annes uncle is due to arrive first week in June so we have plenty of plans and will keep busy visitng some of the attractions this area has to offer. |
