After 8 days in Katherine it was time to move on and head north again. From the Big 4 caravan Park near the Low Level reserve we headed left onto Zimin Drive then left again onto the Stuart Hwy. The Hwy seemed quite busy this day as we always seemed to have a stream of vehicles behind us.
Leaving Daly Water we started to head North again after a quick 2 Km trip south to fill up with fuel at the Daly Waters Roadhouse on Stuart Hwy. The weather was improving all the time and we could see more blue sky than clouds the temperature was also starting to climb...yay.
As luck would have it our old nemesis the heavy-going-on-for-days-and-days rain returned once again as we packed up to leave. Another wide band of rain was heading from the Kimberly's in Western Australia across the whole of the Northern Territory, dropping hundreds of Millimetres of rain in its path, this was definitely out of season. The weather has been either cold, raining or both on this trip. When will we experience some warm dry weather.
Leaving Kings Canyon we headed back towards Lassiter Hwy. Bruce and Gina had toyed with the idea of going through the Mereenie Loop but the boat mounting rack may not be secure enough for a gravel road. We had always intended to travel back over the sealed road. Our setup is not really rough road ready, we don't have any of the underbody armour or stone stomping equipment.
Heading out from Coober Pedy we once again turned north onto the Stuart Hwy. The country side was still very much a barren plain with mounds of dirt where test holes for Opal mining had been drilled.
