Leaving Mt Isa we headed east towards Cloncurry only to not get very far. Anne had read on the camps book there was a ghost town not far up the road and wanted to have a look perhaps we could even camp there the night!!!
We can feel the cold now especially in the mornings lie in's are now becomming frequent. We are in Mt Isa some 1000km South and 600 Km east of Darwin. Travelling along the Stuart Highway untill Threeways roadhouse then turn left and head along the Barkley Highway through Camooweal.
We have finally left Darwin and back on the road again and making our way back south again... SLOWLY. The weather here is quite cool at nights and we're only 300km from the top so we can imagine how cold it must be further south. We are camped at Mataranka homestead beside the natural hot springs of Elsey National Park soaking up the warm water soothing our aching dusty body's.
We have been in Darwin for nearly 11 weeks of our 13 week stopover setup at Darwins Free Spirit Resort. The weather has been warm to hot prompting us to spend a few hours of each day in one of the three pools. The park has filled with travellers from the south getting away from the cold weather we are now in the busy season.
It can only happen in the Northern Territory. We decided to wash the car and caravan in Katherine as there is no water restrictions on use but the moment we put the water on the car the fire authority decided it would be a good idea to burn off the grass / bush right next door to the caravan park. Here we are washing the car with lots of black ash falling from the sky much to the amusment of the ground staff.
